2021.10.27 13:39 RemoteControlSocks I have no idea what is wrong with my PC. Can someone help me figure out what is wrong?
I built this PC 5 and a half years ago. I was on it about a month ago and I spilled water on my desk and it suddenly shut off, it has never done this before. I do not think the water got in the PC because it was below my desk and it only got on a little spot on my desk. In the past it had issues turning on when I wanted it to but it never shut off on me. The issue is that the computer was never able to turn back on. I took everything out of it and cleaned it of all dust. Then I started trying to boot it and it wouldn't boot. I tried booting without RAM, hard drive, GPU, and disk drive. Nothing. I bought a new power supply and that didn't fix the issue. I bought a new PC power button because I thought the one on my case might be broken, still wouldn't boot. I went to geek squad and they said it has to be the motherboard that is the issue. I bought a new motherboard, still not booting. I legit have no idea what is wrong with this thing. Does anyone have any idea? I do not think that the water got into the PC because after I spilled it I only spilled water on the middle of the desk and it didn't run off the edges however it may not be a coincidence it shut off right when I spilled water.

2021.10.27 13:39 instinctrovert You can "train" social anxiety out of your body
And no, I'm not speaking of "forced exposure" and "making yourself talk to people" so that your brain slowly (and painfully) rewires and learns to see these situations as less threatening...
This is a strategy that can help. But in my experience... forcing yourself to face your fears using nothing more than willpower can, in the long run, cause more harm than good. It can leave you in a position where, yes, you're desensitized to your emotions and feelings and not as affected by the fear... but at the cost of losing access to all the good feelings in life and becoming "numb" inside overall.
So no, I'm not speaking of a strategy of merely alleviating the symptoms and becoming desensitized.
I'm speaking of a strategy where you actually begin to defuse your anxiety and take the power out of it. Where you train your body and mind not to react so strongly to the anxiety as it rises up inside you. Where you can begin to look at the social anxiety and calmly step outside of it and draw your energy from out of it.
A story that parallels this process comes from the Spartans, and how they would "train" fear out of their body.
It comes from one of my favorite books, Steven Pressfield's Gates of Fire.
*The Spartans have a discipline they call phobologia, the science of fear.
Fear spawns in the body, phobologic science teaches, and must be combated there. For once the flesh is seized, a phobokyklos, or loop of fear, may commence, feeding upon itself, mounting into a “runaway” of terror. Put the body in a state of aphobia, fearlessness, the Spartans believe, and the mind will follow.
Under the oaks, in the still half-light before dawn, Dienekes practiced alone with Alexandros. He would tap the boy with an olive bought, very lightly, on the side of the face. Involuntarily the muscles of the trapezius would contract. “Feel the fear? There. Feel it?” The older man’s voice crooned soothingly, like a trainer gentling a colt. “Now. Drop the shoulder.” He popped the boy’s cheek again. “Let the fear bleed out. Feel it?”
Man and boy worked for hours on the “owl muscles,” the ophtalmomyes surrounding the eyes. These, Dienekes instructed Alexandros, were in many ways the most powerful of all, for God in His wisdom make mortals’ keenest defensive reflex that which protects vision. “Watch my face when the muscles constrict,” Dienekes demonstrated. “What expression is this?”
Dienekes, schooled in the discipline, commanded his facial muscles to relent.
“Now. What does this expression indicate?”
This is pretty similar to my experience with social anxiety, and how I've been able to gradually bring my body's "reactivity" down to a much lower point, to where the anxiety is now basically non-existent.
I've noticed that every time I get "triggered" - it's not so much my mind that's causing me to feel anxious. A lot of the times it's my body that starts it all, and then it's my mind that follows with the anxious worry.
It seems like a small thing. But if you actually take the time to watch how your social anxiety operates, that many of the times it's not your mind, but your body that initiates the fear and sets you off?
It points to a much different way of dealing with the problem. Realizing that the focus needs to be on the body, not your mind and trying to, for example, think more rationally and positively.
For a long time that's been the talk.
"It's the mind that starts and the body that follows," everyone has said.
"It's all in your head."
But speaking from my own experience and personally seeing great success in working with my body, I no longer believe the above saying to be all that true. Much of the time, it's the BODY that starts and the mind that follows.
That's why it's so important to change the focus of your attention to your body and how fear is playing out at that level, at the place that it first starts and begins.
Training yourself to be able to hold your attention in your body and to look at the fear as it arises inside you. And the key thing, instead of getting pulled into it and getting lost in reactivity to that uprising of fear... standing back from that fear and refusing to get drawn into it. Allowing it to be there but at the same time refusing to engage with it.
It's a slow and gradual process. Not very easy because your mind will want to fall into the same reactive patterns over and over again. But as hard as it is, the rewards are enormous if you can begin to slowly "train" your body so that you don't react to the fear inside of you.
Because reacting = giving more fuel and power to your fear = making it stronger.
Not reacting and withdrawing your energy from it = giving less fuel and power to your fear = making it weaker.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes. Start to bring more attention into your body and to how fear is playing out at that level. Try to notice and catch the fear as soon as it arises and to immediately "withdraw your energy" from it. Try to "step back" from it and hold a neutral space inside where you're not giving any reactivity to those feelings of discomfort that arise. Try to slowly train your body to be less reactive to fear.
And I’ll say it one more time. The most important thing is that you catch the reaction pattern in the beginning, when it first starts to arise. If you wait too long the chances you'll get "swept away by it" and "get lost in it" increase exponentially. When you first feel that spark of discomfort, that's when it's important to really focus on stepping back and withdrawing your energy from it, refusing to engage with it.

Let me know what you think.

2021.10.27 13:39 jenbaminehway UK CHEF KNIFE PURCHASE
hi guys, about to return to the UK from France for a couple of weeks. I'd like to buy a Japanese santoku style knife, around 9-11" blade - can people please suggest the best value for money brand/ knife and where to buy in UK please, preferably online? i'm open to all suggestions for a budget up to £100 at very most but would rather look at the £50-75 budget. i'm not expecting the world's best knife for this but something which if i look after it well (which i will) will last me a long time.
i've also seen japanese style chef knives in tk maxx/ homesense for pretty cheap (£20-30) - are these cheap cause they're crap or are they worth the money? note i haven't been back to the UK in around two years so this may not be the case anymore.
thanks in advance!
